Threadworm

Strongyloides stercoralis, a.k.a The threadworm, is a persistent parasite in warm climates and a cause of potentially fatal parasitic disease significantly.

Around the world may be hundred million people infected with Strongyloides stercoralis (threadworm), a tiny nematode in soil and in animal intestines. Most cases of strongyloidiasis occur in temperate and tropical regions where sanitation is bad.


Many cases people have no idea they're infected by threadworm. When symptoms do occur after the infection they involve the intestine, skin, or lungs:

  • Swelling and Itching of affected skin and a red track where larvae migrate under the skin sometimes.
  • After repeated exposure an allergic skin rash.
  • When larvae move through the lung a pneumonia-like symptoms appear.
  • Abdominal pain.
